Overview

Qualifications 

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or

similar science/Engineering.

Minimum 4-5 years of quality/manufacturing experience in a food production environment is required.

Prior experience managing and/or supporting Customer audit and Regulatory Audits (FDA/USDA) and able to lead regulatory inspection independently as assigned is desired.

Knowledge and experience with quality management systems, SSOPs, Environmental hygiene programs, prerequisite programs and HACCP.

Knowledge of relevant GFSI standards such as SQF, BRC, IFS or FS 22000 is desired.

Knowledge and understanding of Food Safety regulations, FSMA and industry and market trends is desired.

Transformational experience is a plus.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Effective at organizing and managing multiple work tasks of a diverse nature.

Responsibilities 

Responsible for supervision of Quality staff and including but not limited to the following: laboratory management, training, maintenance of product and raw material quality records and testing procedures, informing stakeholders of quality issues, and compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices and Company’s Standard Operating Procedures.

Develop and maintain procedures which assure product and service quality including ingredient and packaging control, product testing and clearance, product disposition system and rework control, GLP (Good Laboratory Practices), manufacturing procedures, aged inventory policy and may include quality systems and sanitation audits.

Maintain and update product specifications including customer specifications and raw material specifications to reflect any changes or product use requirements. Ensure finished product and raw materials are tested per Company specification. Monitor test results in relation to these specifications.

Communicate and enforce Company standards in the areas of ingredient and product standards, process specifications, formula compliance, and regulatory compliance.

Notify key stakeholders of identified issues and ensure proper communication. Provide technical support for resolution of quality problems with operations.

Act as the technical liaison for Jackson bulk department: Externally with customers and vendors; and internally with R&D and supply chain for the commercialization process.

In conjunction with the Senior Quality Manager and Quality System Supervisors, update and support food safety programs and food safety systems: HACCP, sanitation, and environmental monitoring program. Maintain the quality systems for the plant. Ensure work instructions, SSOPs, procedures and other pertinent documentation is up to date. Recommend revisions plant work instructions as needed.

Support the plant Food Safety & Quality System to produce safe quality food, acting as SQF Practitioner or equivalent GFSI manager (BRC, FS22000).

Participate in quality complaint investigations. Verify corrective action completion and continued conformance.

Perform and/or participate in internal audits while ensuring compliance to internal quality policies and applicable local regulations through the audits, observations, process reviews, and development of corrective actions with site management.

Support facility during inspections, customer audits, communications, commercialization, and other interactions with regulatory agencies or customers.

Develop and lead the plant Quality Improvement Program in the areas of specifications and trending review, complaint investigation and corrective action, production right-the-first-time (RTFT), analytical and sensory capability of the Quality team.
