Overview

 

Summary 

The System Tester’s primary function is to translate business-driven acceptance criteria into manual tests of Company’s suite of applications and systems.  This position works in close partnership with all team members to design and execute tests, ensuring high quality software results. The System Tester is a SME and the primary contact when determining risk and severity of issues reported through the various stages of test.

Responsibilities

Educate team members on proper application of agile testing processes (e.g., black box and white box testing methods) and standardized use of selected testing tools.

Collaborate with Product Owners and Developers to create complete and thorough testing scenarios from User Story acceptance criteria.

Focus heavily on building relationships to help us achieve a common goal.

Work closely with the Software Support team to identify root cause of issues identified in the field.

Work closely with Embedded Testers to bring clarity to stories and business paths.

Work closely with Automation Engineers to identify valuable tests to be considered for automation.

Actively participates in group discussions and offer feedback based on experience and risk.

Triage bugs that come in through our Beta testing program.

Understand the architecture of the various environments and how they impact testing.

Take on projects or propose ideas that help move the department forward.

Stay current on industry trends and make recommendations to the team.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast paced, team oriented environment.

Retain knowledge over time becoming a SME.

Maintain and improve the test environments to mimic the user environment as closely as possible.

Plan, develop and implement test cases based on software requirements, user input and technical understanding.

Assist in reproducing, investigating and debugging software issues in coordination with the Development and Support teams.

Document and report test outcomes to the Development team by collecting, analyzing, interpreting and summarizing data.

Requirements

A strong desire to continue to pursue a career in software testing and quality assurance.

Familiar with Continuous Integration.

Basic understanding of programming/script languages.

Knowledge of database design.

Working knowledge of SQL.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex ideas to both technical and non-technical parties.

Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to make progress with minimal guidance and structure in a fast-paced, delivery-driven environment. Willingness to acquire skills and knowledge on one’s own to meet the changing demands of the role.

Familiar with Mind Mapping or other process for identifying valuable tests.

Experience with Agile software development.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

Several years of experience working in an agile environment.

Several years of experience in a role as a software tester, quality assurance analyst, business analyst, or other position where > 50% of responsibilities involve testing software.

Training and experience in formal methods of test planning, test case design, and test management/execution.
